Anyone have recommendations for a tiny edc light that I can throw on my car keys? I keep one of those tiny swiss army knives on my keys and would like something similar in size. Been looking at youtube videos but those people seem to usually be getting paid to say one is better than the other. I dont need anything crazy, im not going to be using it for a zombie apocalypse, but i dont want one of those cheap things you find at the check out for a buck. All help is appreciated!

    Olight.

I have a bunch of these I use to round out an order or when they are doing a promo. They are really bright on high but only last 10-15 minutes. Pretty good on low and you’ll get a couple of hours. MicroUSB recharge quickly.

does it have a replaceable battery? If not how long before you start seeing a noticeable loss in battery life?

That looks pretty neat. Didn't know I needed one!

Do you actually carry any light at the moment?
Would that keychain light be a primary or backup light?

I carry a super cheap light with my car keys (probably the kind you say you don't want though, picture bellow).

I carry probably 4 or 5 (probably more) full size lights though. So I don't need the keychain light to be crazy bright.

I’ve had one a year. It’s either a lithium battery or an ultracap. If the latter it should basically last forever. A lithium should go a few years. You might be able to replace it but I’ve never tried. I own like ten of them. Each keychain has one and I usually have one or two as pocket litter. I also have several of the I3E in both white and UV.

You might need/want to carry more than one light.
To me a keychain flashlight needs to be tiny.
Most of the ones advertised as much are too large and if they are not they suck as an all around flashlight.
The tiny light I have is good if you drop something on the ground but it has no throw so you can't see far away.
It would suck as your only light.
That's why I carry another light, bigger but still compact during the day.
Plus a backup to that light.
If I go out at night (or explore undergound places) I have a third one even bigger and brighter. But it's too big to keep in my pocket during the day.
I keep yet another light in my EDC bag, this one is a magnetic area light to work on a vehicle at night (change tire, jump battery etc).
I have headlamp in my medical bag, plus a backup to that.

I'm kinda obsessed with flashlights, and that's only the ones I carry. Not the ones I keep at home.

Each light is for a different job.I don't know if just one small keychain size light can cover all your needs.

It depends what you do, where you live etc.
If you work outside, sometimes at night and in the middle of nowhere in the country you won't have the same need as a guy who works in an office in the city.

That one has its place, and wins for its small size and price, but it only has 10 lumens. That's too meager, IMO .... how is Jerry G. going to find his way back to the heavenly concert stage, TTP ? ;)

In truth, Sylvain is correct, of course.... a man needs more than one torch with him, if possible.

    And to carry spare batteries!

Even if most my spare batteries are kept inside spare lights. :):

Not keychain, but it falls into the pocket and disappears. Coast HP2. single AAA, focus adjustment, momentary tailcap switch. And though it could be brighter (only 80lm) I have proven it is adequate* as a defensive handheld light during one of Coach's low light shoots. I carry one in my pocket every day.

*I could easily ID my target. I wasnt going to dazzle the attacker,(or light up somebody 100m away) but I knew my immediate close
    target for sure.

To me a "defensive light" is something you can use to strike people (with strike bezel really bright etc).
Not something you hold in your "non-gun hand" while shooting people with the other hand. :):

And you bring a good point.I don't know if OP carries a gun but if he does with no light it's a big no no.
You need to ID your target and with no light your gun is useless 12hrs a day.

Picking a light to be used with a handgun is something else to consider.
You will need a tail cap switch, something you can't have it most tiny keychain lights.

A light attached to the gun is the best option but if you go that route you will also want to carry a second light.

You can't go around and point your gun at things/people each time you need a light.

Plus you will want to save the battery on your gun-mounted light for emergency use.

A trusted instructor (I dont recall who, the info just stuck with me) said that those defensive lights are not a good idea for the average person. The jagged edges dont do that much damage and unless you are pretty strong will only **** the attacker off by causing superficial wounds. Plus you may end up with their blood all over you. Icky.

Yes you need to know how to strike someone empty handed to begin with.
If it's the right size it can be used as a fist load to protect your knuckles when you throw a punch.
When it sticks out from your hand just enough it's good for hammer fist punches.
You can easily break someone's nose or jaw that way.

But clearly it's a close quarter last ditch weapon.
Not the best and not magic if you don't know how to fight anyway.

My EDC light is a 2000 lumen Olight I can start fires with (set my shirt on fire once! Used it to start some leaves for a campfire once!) I use the safety feature for pocket carry, and it's my "blind an attacker" light. My little Olight keychain lights are for convenience lighting. I own an awful lot of lights, very, very few of them cheapies.

I have other lights. I use to carry one a little bit bigger than a roll of quarters regularly because i used it frequently with my last job. Its currently my bed side light puts out enough light to see around my house.

Im not looking for a weapon light. Or a light that can be used as a weapon, i have a full size mag lite if i wanted a weapon. I dont see a scenario where i reach for a flash light on my person instead of my handgun or knife to protect myself. Im really just looking for a small light that wont turn on and drain in my pocket, has some durability, and can fit nicely on my keys because my pants are already heavy enough. A head lamp in the car is a good idea ill actually be ordering one and making a small edc bag now that you guys have taken me down this rabbit hole lol. Last year we had a slide off in my community where a woman went into a decorative pond and drowned with a few of her children, i immediately order window breaks/ seatbelt cutters as well as a window break hammer that i keep in the car. But i should improve upon that and get a bag to carry everything.

I think what im looking for in this keychain light is if say im at a friends house and they ask me to take a look at a mower or something for example. I could just pull it out of my pocket and see what im looking at. Not looking to use it to protect my life in anyway.

No worries, I came here with the question because you guys know your stuff and put it to the tests. If i asked most people they'd give me a little led light their bank gave them when they opened an account.
