Česká zbrojovka (CZG) continues to negotiate the acquisition of a 100% stake in the American company Colt, which is the world's leading manufacturer of firearms. The time limit for exclusivity to complete the negotiations has been extended to the end of January.

According to CZG, the conclusion of the final documentation is expected by the end of January, subject to the completion of negotiations, transaction documentation and obtaining the necessary approvals from the competent authorities of both parties. "Once all of the above conditions have been met, regulatory approval will be required before the transaction can be finally settled. Despite the significant progress in the negotiations, however, there is no guarantee that the transaction will be completed, "CZG pointed out.

According to Fio banka analyst Jan Raška, CZG's original intention was to complete the negotiations in 2020, so everything is now being postponed by about one month. "In our opinion, a possible acquisition of Colt would increase Česká zbrojovka's chances of gaining a foothold in the American segment of the armed forces," said Raška.

I don’t know about that first line. What was the last original design that Colt successfully marketed? I really do hope this goes through though. It would be great to see Dan Wesson quality 1911s with Colt roll marks on the market.

From what I have been reading on the 1911 forum, they have screwed up Dan Wesson, so why not Colt?

I have no idea what they mean by screwing up DW. I have 2 of them from the CZ owners and they are far and away better than anything I saw previous. I was of the mind to just give up on the DW line up. My new Valor is amazing.

They are just PO'd that a commie gun maker owns the roll marks.

Could be like AT&T buying Direct TV if Colt has a huge albatross around it's neck.

I lived in the Czech Republic for 9 years, and as a kid I used to visit the Ceska Zbrojovka store off of Vaclavske Namesti to buy Swiss Army Knives and such (buying guns wasn't really an option as a foreigner and a teenager). While I have some reservations about the Colt brand going to a non-American company, it definitely needs some help, and we could do a lot worse than CZ or the Czechs.

As to the commie comments, the Czechs were unwilling participants in that whole debacle, and really got sold downriver by the western allies after WWII (and at the beginning of the war, too, for that matter). Patton made it all the way to Pilsen in '45, and could have gone further but was ordered to stand down by his command and let the Russians "liberate" the country. That set them up to be behind the Iron Curtain when it came down, and when the people rose up and tried to break free in '68, the Warsaw Pact sent in tanks and slapped them down. When glastnost started loosening Soviet control in the late 80s, they dumped their communist government in short order. By European standards, the Czech Republic is pretty conservative politically, and actually has a pretty strong gun culture. They've been making guns since well before WWII, and even during the communist era made their own stuff rather than simply adopting soviet designs.

CZ makes some nice 1911s through Dan Wesson, and pretty much everybody that shoots CZs seems to like them. Revolvers will be interesting...I'm not sure what CZ will do with that, but it would be cool to see the SAA come back in some kind of affordable form. CZ as a company has really been a success commercially here in the US in recent years....maybe this will breathe some new life into Colt which IMO has become a brand that can't get out of its own way.

    +1 for 92FSTech's comment.

The Czechs are hardly commies. I was in Germany when The Wall fell. The east Germans were pretty lost, only a handful of them had any idea what to do with their new-found liberty. The Czechs exploded into business, had fax machines in every restaurant to take orders*, opened other new businesses like crazy, and turned the communist party HQ in Prague into a casino. They sponsored tours to Czechoslavakia (as it was then) from the West to bring in tourism business and money. The Czechs were ready to do business!

As for buying Colt - all for it if they will turn it into a gun business rather than stripping the carcass. Other friends who have traveled their have remarked on their "gun culture" and that in many respects their gun laws were much friendlier than ours.

And it will keep Jeff Bezos or somebody from China buying it at China Joe's behest to be run as a "woke" firearms company making rifles for the government and finger-print enabled nerf guns for the citizenry.

*What's the big deal about faxes in restaurants? The commies did not let anyone talk to anyone without using approved comm lines, which were few and not very available to the average joe shmoe, and then only to talk about approved things...kind of like the next administration and facebook, google, amazon, etc. Hell, the east german citizens didn't even have maps because they weren't generally allowed to travel. In 1989 faxes were leading technology, and the Czechs put them in the hands of everybody.
