I got this text from a person that stays on top of these things...

Heard from very reliable source INDIANA DNR going to hold public meeting in near future to hear opinion on opening 2015 deer season to ALL RIFLE calibers. Sounds like another done deal just taking the publics input for a feel good formality.

The DNR will be revealing their next proposal tomorrow so that it can be preliminarily adopted at the NRC September 12th meeting. IF the text is true then that will be included in the proposal..

BTW - Another person who really knows this stuff has posted on another site that the rumor is true..

I have learned that a new Rule Proposal is going to be made next week to allow center fire rifles of .243 and higher to be legal for Indiana deer hunting. The rule could not go into effect earlier than 2015 at the earliest.

The source of this new rule proposal comes from public comments which were taken in various forums over the past.

The proposal will go to Public Comment in the next several weeks, and depending upon that public comment feedback a final adoption meeting would be scheduled for sometime next year is my best guess.

Again, this is a RULE PROPOSAL. It will need to go through public comment periods and formal adoption hearings before it would be finalized. The purpose of this email is to inform hunters to that they can be prepared to comment should they choose to do so. Instructions for how to comment will be forthcoming from IDNR. You can also visit their website www.dnr.in.gov periodically to check if they have this information out there yet.

Why lever guns and single shots and not bolt action? I am quicker to reload with my lever action than my bolt actions and you can get a lot of high powered rounds in a lever action such as a .308, 300MW, 30-06, 270,....

I would agree with lever action, single shots and bolt action

Yeah, I have to agree. I heard this starting back about 6 years ago.

Man, would the guys who invested in a 358 Hoosier rifle be a little hurt. While the cost of the rifle can be close to a standard rifle, the cost and availability of the ammo is a pain. Those who like to reload, may not be too upset.

I have to say that it would cause my 44mag to get a lot less use and my 300wm and .308 to get a lot more use

Considering the source of this rumor, I have to believe it is true.
I am one who did a 358 Hoosier wildcat build and will not be upset if IN opens up the CF options . I had never done a wildcat or a custom build so it was a great experience and now I have a unique rifle. Yes, I do reload so that also helps make it a mute issue.

Im pretty sure my 358 would be just as effective the year after the rule change, as it was the year before the rule change. I have a ton in my 358 BFG, but for 300 bucks I could have a really nice 25wssm, etc if I decided I needed a change of pace.

I am not sure how I feel about this on public land... there have been times (in ohio but still) that on public land when the sun comes up I could see 15 orange vests from where I had been sitting since 4 am. and then when deer start moving its a freakin volley w/ 5 or 6 guys taking four or five shots each. Not so sure I would want to be in the woods if those rounds were a bunch of 300WM's flying all around.

Is this different than what current happens? Granted it's 'just" 12 ga shotguns shooting sabots.

I am not going to form an official stance on anything, I just know that I will not hunt public lands for the reason I stated above. I don't have an answer nor a suggestion, just an observation.

Tag for interest. Got to say that I am in the same boat as Indygunworks. I do a fair amount of hunting on public land in south central Indiana and will change my hunting dramatically if this were to pass.
