"Appeared" to have gun in hand. Could be anything at this point including a half-eaten Pop-Tart. If this turns out to be another "OC just because I can" display, I only wish people would consider what is at stake for all gun owners and citizens in general before choosing to walk around with their 2A rights on public display like it's their genitalia. Legal? Sure. Advisable? Not at the moment.
Those who are so inclined, flame away. It's another of our rights.:flamethrower:

Perhaps this was all just a cleaver plot by a college student to get that hours sleep back before class this morning. Call in a bogus threat, go back to bed for another hour this morning.

I don't think I took one test at the Purdue Armory 15 years ago, while in college where the building didn't have a bomb threat called in by some kid that didn't want to take a test.... More than likely it was some kid trying to get class canceled and was carrying around a squirt gun or someone anti gun trying to make up a story. If that's not the case, shame on me but I don't think it is wise by the media or any of us to jump to any conclusions. This kind of stuff has been going on for years but it is now hip and makes a story, that ultimately pushes an agenda......

"The man had no discernible threatening behavior, nor did he appear to be walking toward any specific building. It appeared he had a handgun in his left hand. "

.... If really a gun and unholstered, then I understand the alert....[FONT=&quot]

Whoa, whoa, whoa. With a LTCH, OC is legal in Indiana and there is no law that the gun has to be in a holster. I have no idea why someone would be concerned with a guy carrying a gun in his hand on a college campus. He is well within his rights.

    Agreed....
Genitalia fits some of the folks I have seen OC.
Not all but a few especially at the gun shows.

You might want to just get out of there and go home for the day. Lockdown means sitting duck if it's ever real.

Indeed. I hope and pray it never happens but this entire lockdown scenario is a mass-murder's dream-come-true! It's this same rigid following of protocol that allowed Mohammed Atta and his friends to exploit the "conform and let the authorities negotiate when on the ground" on 9/11/2001.

But it's completely unclear what laws were being broken. In Indiana firearm carry on a college campus is legal provided the individual complied with applicable laws like having a LTCH.

What we're seeing here is that same sad over-reaction on the part of fools. The fact that a man might be carrying a gun is NOT a concern to me. The fact that a man is doing something illegal with that gun is a concern.

The bad guys are bad but they are not stupid! Eventually one of them will exploit this sort of behavior for their own perverse objectives and people will get hurt!

Exactly, i'd rather take my chances getting out of there and being on the move. Harder to hit a moving target than confined to a classroom.

With DST, it was still fairly dark here on campus at the time. If really a gun and unholstered, then I understand the alert. But with the darkness and chance of rain, there's a good chance it was an umbrella. Obviously hoping for the latter.

After the Virginia Tech incident I remember we had a few lockdowns based on reports of an armed person on campus. Each time it turned out to be a report by a jumpy person who saw someone holding an everyday item, but perceived it to be a firearm. I know it's better to be safe than sorry, but it does rub you the wrong way to be locked down because someone mistook an iPhone for a pistol.

Sorry guys, After I posted, I was unable to use my cellphone for data online purposes.
Anyway here is the deal these are the emails I received from BSU.

I did receive 1 text message that basically states the same at the first email from BSU 08:00 Hrs

Interesting thing Is i was walking to class at 7:35-7:45 in the area that was suspect of gun toting individual. There was more cops in the area than normal communicating with one another in their cars (donuts shop talk I guess) and seemed to be more in the area. I speculate that it took more than 15 minutes for the University to Notify students. I may be wrong. As these are just my perceptions of the events, and may only be coincidence

However, The uni was not very descriptive of what was going on as Gun could describe a lot of things. I understand that it is peoples right to carry on the sidewalks on Campus, If they are not a student that right is stripped, and if someone was to carry and get caught it would be an automatic expulsion, unless written permission is granted from the Director of Public safety which is the Ball State University's Police Cheif. So good luck with that.

Supposedly man with gun on campus. Sitting in class doors locked. Basically on lockdown at ball state. would feel better if i could carry gun mass text sent to students. Text was not specific no updates in 20 min since text sent.

Well, we had a woman assaulted on the Purdue campus in the GRANT Street Parking garage at 1:30 PM on Sunday. She was 25 feet from one of those blue Call boxes.

I thought those call boxes PREVENTED that!!!!

It's called being aware of your surroundings and use of good judgment. I know how easy it is to get a gun and license in Indiana. I CCW to be prepared against BG's and legal gun toters who might turn bad. I Don't assume everyone who has a license has good intentions. If in fact he had his gun out than that is not normal behavior. If I'm walking down the street and see someone with their gun in hand I'm not thinking, "hey leave that guy alone he's legal". I'm back-tracking with hand on my gun just in case.

Daughter = Prof. there at BSU said it was a "soft" lock down. Have to get details on the definition of that!

Okay so in my class today. The professor went and locked the classroom doors around 6 after 8 am. then told the students what was going on that he was advised to lock the doors and take caution, to resume class as usual. No additional precautions were taken to move students out of line of sight of the classroom door window etc.

Basically we were told to not leave the classroom unless needed and keep the door locked.. So yeah... Soft Lock Down @ BSU My girlfriends professor did not bother locking the door to the class room until after 15 mintues after the class started at 8.

Also, I did not hear or see any police officers sweep or check the building that I was in. So I am not sure what their standard protocol is.

Also, BSU gets hairy as far as Carrying on campus or in buildings as the University allows the two high schools/ Academy they run to use various buildings on campus at any given time, such as the Rec Center, Gym, library, Student center, Etc.. So not really sure the implications of the Law are on this campus.

Have a wonderful day guys. I have another lecture to attend!
