Okay, so I am in the Marine Reserves and I can't have my stuff smelling like pot, or have it in my system, and these guys in my apartment building smoke pot all the time and make the entry way smell like marijuana smoke. This smoke seeps into all the apartments. I have called the cops on them two times already, and again tonight, and they keep doing it. Now I know the cops can't stop them from smoking, and frankly I don't care if they stop or not, I just don't want my stuff to smell like their "stuff."
If they get a ticket or get arrested or something I know they can be evicted (obviously not clear on the details of this) but I don't know how to get it to this point. I have been at this complex for almost three years and these guys are subleasing an apartment for the rest of the year. The lady in the office is on my side, but she says there isn't much she can do at this point. Any suggestions?

How is it that 3 calls to LE have yielded nothing in terms of consequences to these guys? Something doesn't seem to be adding up.

Does your lease say something about disturbing the neighbors?

Not right now. All the apartments are taken for the rest of the semester and I don't believe they are living here next year. I have been dealing with this since January and I am frankly getting sick of it.

Marijuana smoke (Them) vs CS Gas Grenade (You). Just sayin! If they ask, say it was a "Bug Bomb" and they will be setting one off every week. At least every week you have drill!

I'll have to look into that tomorrow. This is not the only issue we have had with these guys. LE did go into their apartment one time when I called and it was a little while before they came out. I don't know what ever came of that.

My stuff ends up smelling like pot because they stink up the whole building. It might not be in my system, but my stuff continues to smell like pot. Like I said, if they want to keep smoking, whatever, I don't really care, but they need to do it outside or somewhere else where everyone else in the building doesn't have to smell it.

Have you tried asking them? Just throwing it out there. I loved the funny stuff before I joined the Corps, and I was pretty laid back about it. Had someone acknowledged it and asked for a little courtesy I would have obliged. Play like your not the one calling the cops, and that guy must be a jerk, bla bla see if you can coerce them.

If that doesn't work, maybe a show of force, get a bunch of high and tights together and... maybe try something different? If your down at Bloomington I know there are a bunch of Marines down there, hell same at Purdue and Terre Haute...

    First off,
I like that smell. You should do nothing at all.

    Or,
Just burn the building to the ground.
Oh wait. That might not be legal... we'll have to consult the LEO's and Lawyers here about that.
I'm just kidding ... I'm sure this is bugging you. BUT ....

Honestly, If they're not bad guys other than that, I'd just leave them alone and maybe burn some incense myself or use other air freshener. Life's too short to be a rat.

You're a well trained Marine. They aren't. Figure it out. :D

Side note. Call the cops every time you smell it. EVERY TIME. You want to have a nice long paper trail if anything should come up. Also, The cops will eventually get tired of coming out for the same retreads that can't seem to figure out an alternative way to break the law. Once this happens, they will see to it that something gets done. This same thing happened to my g/f with the idiots above her blaring rap at ALL hours of the day. Cops came out at least once a week, maybe more. Finally, management opened the apartment door for them, they found their dog (that wasn't on the apartment's lease) tied to a door and had animal control pick it up because it was sitting in it's own feces, and arrested the owners for neglect. The apartments evicted them.

It's not about winning every battle, it's about winning the war.

He cannot truthfully be said to be a rat if he objects on account of it creating an actual problem for him as seems to be the case.

This is always an option. I will have to try those next. These guys don't seem to care much about rules or common courtesy though so I don't know how well it will work.

In college, I had neighbors who would party very late on weeknights and I called the police a few times. There were occasions when I actually missed a 7:30 lab b/c they kept me up all night. Anyway, the office personnel told me to keep filing reports. For the renters to be evicted, there needs to be a paper trail.

As far as keeping your mouth shut, that's bogus. Why should you be courteous to them when they're clearly not being courteous to you? F*** 'em.
