RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
    Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

Russia has always wanted Alaska, its been in their blood. Now especially that the Black Sea is getting shakey on oil (the powers in those regions are no longer Warsaw Pact, so the Russians now have to barter for oil from that region like everyone else :D). Russia is feeling a real pinch from China. Russia enjoys having oil resources, which Russia does have it's own on it's own soil, however, they do not like the idea of China taking up more and more of the outside (foriegn) sources. Russia is alot like the US in respect for oil: We have a big reserve, we make token actions to "get independant from oil" and we despise the idea of a new power buying up foriegn sources of it.

In respect to this article: Well written, but nothing new. Many many political professors claim the US will falter. If it does, it does. If it doesnt, then it doesnt (meet the new boss, same as the old boss). The article is a meager way to incite people to action or panic, one or the other. One thing of note is that everytime I see an article like this, it is never an American or Canadian professor.

Much of the internet nowdays is filled with "news" agencies filling the voids of newscycles with opinion or highlights of people that have little import on world and economic actions making a fuss over something they have little ability to quantify. I could say, using the same method as in the essay above, that Russia will break up due to 5 or more ethnic groups inside it. Or that the EU will be eventually dissolved and Germanic tribes will roam Europe after the 5th Nuclear World War 4. Of all the papers written in scientific or economic or political journals, more and more internet news sites are going through them to pick out ones that will seem interesting to the public.

ETA: 10ring, thank you for posting the source too. I see alot more stuff being posted, not just here, but everywhere I visit with no source listed.

My prediction is that Russia will lay in ruins long before the U.S. breaks apart. They're almost there now.

People have been predicting the imminent collapse of the US for a long time. Economic collapse has been the claim since at least the 70's (check out some vintage 70's TV show, particularly situation comedies with a strong topical bent such as Barney Miller, for examples).

We're still here and, frankly, I don't think we're going anywhere.

My only question is: if we're not going anywhere, why are we in the this handbasket?

Approximately 90% of the Canadian population lives within 150 miles of the US border. It would be a SOB to have that long of a front, but it would take < a week to occupy most of their major cities.:patriot:

He does make some interesting points. Breaking up the country in to regions of states would finally get rid of the liberal assholes telling everyone else what to do. The northeast would fill up quickly with liberal jackasses and they could all worry each other to death sitting in front of their gods on the evening news. Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont would probably be a free region on their own however. The midwest, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, would most likely bond with West Virginia and the south who would in turn bond with Texas. Maybe Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas might join up after a while. The socialist north central area, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan would probably be a good place for colonization after their governments collapsed. I'm thinking there might be a west central region made up of Colorado, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico. I'd look for Washington and Oregon to bond with California. As far as Idaho, North and South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming are concerned, I'd say they'd be a free region by themselves. After a while, we'd have a strong central region with just the California group on one coast and the New york group on the other. As soon as the honest citizens moved out and into our regions, we could easily take control of them since they'd have no guns and no guts either. Man, this is sounding better and better. We could enslave all those left wingers and send them to forced labor agricultural gulags to raise crops for us. We could use Michigan for the prison colony as they have a good start already and a lot of their boundry is surrounded by water.

His failure lies in not understanding capitalism. When he talks about companies failing and going away, he looks at it from a communist point of view, where the company is the government and it is impossible for it to fail. Other companies will take the place of these failed banks, car companies, etc. Anyone remember TWA, Allegheny Air, Pan Am, the old Republic Air, Western Airlines, Airborne Express, Air Midwest, Aloha Airlines, ATA, Braniff, Eastern Airlines, Flying Tiger Airlines, Ozark Airlines, Piedmont Airlines, Reno Air, Southeast Airlines, or Texas International Airlines? Those and a list of maybe 200-300 other defunct airlines can be found on wikipedia. Despite these failures we still have airlines, and possibly may have too many even now. When one went away another took its place and capitalism will ensure that this happens again an again. Will those who lost their jobs suffer...sure. But they will be hired by the company that takes its place...at less pay and benefits though. This will not cause a collapse of anything however. These type of comments remind me of the rhetoric coming out of the USSR pre-1989 though.
