The horse is out of the barn on that, and we won't be going back. There's too much money being made.
Was discussing along these lines last night with a friend and a question came to me, when does the “horse out of the barn” reach critical mass?

In the name of expediency the capitalist business world has, for most of our adult lives, preferred settlement, non-prosecution, and convenience over principle. They would rather settle/pay out frivolous lawsuits than fight them on principle and set the standard that if you sue us, it will cost you. They would rather write off shoplifting than prosecute. They would rather offer convenience for both themselves and customers by charging customers enough to cover losses, by allowing the data thefts, than to secure the systems.

When does the cost of this reach critical mass such that consumers can no longer afford the cost of these indulgences?
